An intake column is the point of contact between citizens and the waste disposal system. It is where an everyday action takes place: finding the right waste stream, opening the equipment and depositing waste. The way this equipment is designed affects how easy it is to use and how well it fits into public spaces.

When choosing an underground system, container capacity and collection operations should therefore be considered alongside the equipment at street level. A robust structure, the opening mechanisms and clear signage help adapt the solution to the needs of each location.

Making waste disposal and separation easier

An intake column that is easy to operate, with clear signage suited to the waste being deposited, helps citizens use the system correctly. By making separation at source easier and encouraging more regular participation, this equipment can help increase recycling rates.

The choice of materials and finishes also matters, as it helps the equipment fit into its surroundings. Opening options should take account of the types of waste most frequently deposited, the different users and their accessibility needs.

This is the context in which Sotkon presents DROP and MIKA, two distinct intake columns that reflect decades of experience and learning from the thousands of Sotkon intake columns installed worldwide. With a modern appearance and robust construction, they offer a range of customization options to meet the needs of each project.

DROP with lid opening

DROP features a circular body with a watertight lid and an integrated handle. Its simple, functional design is intended to fit into different urban environments.

A shock absorber inside the column controls the lid as it closes, providing a soft close that helps protect the equipment from impacts and reduce noise in the street.

Among the optional features, a pedal opening allows the lid to be operated without using the hands, making disposal easier when carrying bags of waste. Reducers of different sizes can be fitted to adapt the opening to specific waste fractions. DROP can also be customized with a lid closure, among other options.

MIKA with a drum capacity of 95 liters

MIKA features a distinctive design, with a teardrop-shaped drum and an integrated handle for practical everyday opening. The drum has a capacity of 95 liters and an internal shock absorber provides a soft close, helping reduce impacts and noise during use.

Its welded steel construction contributes to the overall robustness of the equipment. An optional large commercial door makes it easier to deposit higher volumes of waste, allowing the same equipment to meet different usage needs.

Optional features include a pedal for opening the drum without touching the handle, while a key-operated lock allows access to be restricted when necessary. These are some of the customization options available to make MIKA even better suited to the needs of each installation.

Options and compatibility of both models

Both models are available in stainless steel or painted steel and feature a signage area integrated into the body, which can be customized to the customer's requirements. This makes it possible to identify the waste to be deposited and adapt the equipment's appearance to its location.

Compatible with the KONCEPT, EVOS and APTO underground systems, DROP and MIKA can incorporate different SOTKIS (Sotkon Intelligent Systems) modules. This ecosystem of Sotkon intelligent solutions combines equipment and digital tools to support waste management.

A key module is Sotkis Access, which controls access to the intake column and records every waste deposit.

The choice between these two intake columns allows you to tailor the opening, finishes and optional features to the users and the characteristics of each location.
